Omega Speedmaster 145.022-69 " Straight writing "

I already told you guys that every good watch collection nééds an Omega Speedmaster. Why is nobody listening? Don't go for a new one but search for a vintage 145.022 like the one I just found in Austria. The guy I bought it from was once the owner of one of the two Heuer Monaco's Steve McQueen used in the movie "Le Mans". Don't ask me why he sold that one and certainly don't ask him. He is still on medication because of that sad decision. Just kidding. It's a very nice guy with a great watch collection.

But let's go back to the Omega Speedmaster Professional. If you ask me it's the most important watch in the world from an historical point of view. I think everybody knows the story, if not you find it on Wiki.

This reference 145.022-69 "straight writing" has not the famous 321 movement but the 861 calibre movement that was introduced in 1968, also designed by Alfred Piguet. The 861 was very similar to the 321, but replaced its column wheel switching mechanism with a cam and increased the beat rate from 18000 to 21600 vibrations per hour. So if you can go for a ref. 145.012 or even better for the ref. 105.003 but this ref. 145.022 is the most accessible reference for a newcomer and certainly a great watch to have.

What are the things to watch out for? Hmmmm, don't know really. No, just kidding but I will tell you later.
